Executive Internship Program

Earn professional experience as a high school junior/senior

Dentist's Office (Brittany)

With all the fun I had working, I think the most beneficial thing during the experience was learning about my own work habits. I learned that I always like to be busy and I can work along side others without problems. I love helping out, and I would rather be doing even some 'silly' task than just sitting around.

Everyone has their own quirks and fears, but when you are trying to perform a root canal on someone, you hope to get a calm person. I have seen my share of good and bad patients. Every person is different, and it was fun seeing how the assistants and doctors dealt with the differences in personalities. Although some patients put up more of a fight than others, every surgery was performed to perfection. It amazed me how doctors and assistants could get little kids to be calm.

Going through the different opportunities, I learned not to be set on my stereotype of what I think people do at work. I have to hand it to secretaries; it takes a lot of hard work arguing with people on the phone all day. By the end of this program, I learned to focus on my tasks and get them done as soon as possible regardless if others were lazy. Even in the workplace there will be tough days, but your boss wants the work done. If you do not want to do it, they can find someone else who will.

Smiles and open arms were my greeting
Suddenly I was not so afraid at my very first meeting
The assistants showed me around with excitement in their eyes
I was now ready for whatever was in this Internship surprise.
Starting out I was only allowed to shadow the assistants
But soon enough they allowed me to be a big participant
Restocking supplies was my main job
I reorganized when things looked a slob
I am so lucky to have received this opportunity
Now I am confident to be a part of the dental community.
