Gainesville Sun Office (Maggie)

My first meeting with my boss was very relaxed compared to the way I had imagined it. I generally imagined people who work with newspapers as cigar smoking, gin-soaked gangsters even though I knew that was hardly going to be the case. My boss was very nice and not the least bit gangster-ish. When he came downstairs and greeted me with a genuine smile and shook my hand, I knew I was going to get along with him.

When I get there I just sign into my account and see if any more bands have messaged me. It's really great to be able to help out all these local bands that I love. The punk scene in Gainesville is absolutely exploding, and thanks to my internship, I can help out all my little gutter punk friends' bands if they have recorded music that I can use.

As for my workload, I’m quite happy with it. I'm yet to figure out how to actually put MP3s (the actual music files) into the database, and that's the most important part of all. I'm sure I'll get the hang of it sometime soon. I'm going to hammer out the minor details before I get into the whole music business.
The semester has been really fun. Just being able to collaborate with many of my favorite local bands has been great, but being able to watch from the sidelines of a real newsroom has been great as well. The fact that my boss is really cool is just the cherry on top. He manages to make me laugh and always helps if I'm confused.
