Law Firm (Marissa, Chelsea)

A trek up the steep staircase
A greeting at the top of the stairs
Smiles from the paralegals
Orders from the attorneys
A walk into the copy room
Staple removers
The sound of the copier
The sound continues
Paperclips, staples, hole punches
Friendly conversation
The sound of the squeaking filing cabinets
Someone talking effortlessly loud on the speakerphone
Paper cuts
Writing letters to clients who need to 'pay up'
The signing of the timesheets
Finding someone with enough time to evaluate me
Saying goodbye till next time
When the date will change
Yet, the tasks will remain the same.

I am interested in trying internship again next fall. I am hoping to get a placement with a physical therapy office because that is the major I look to pursue in college.

This week, one of the people we work with mentioned something to us that has made me see things in a new light. She asked us if we would be interested in getting a job there. Obviously, we would have to do this at a time other than from one to three o' clock on Wednesdays and Fridays.

It was funny to me: When she said something about hiring us, I was actually interested. It’s amazing the things that people will do for money. Amanda and I have discussed it some and will probably talk more about it when it gets closer. We are seriously considering taking a summer job there.

I have heard, 'Yes, we have won the such and such case!' screamed throughout the building. Everyone yells 'Good job' and 'Congratulations.' Other words are sometimes yelled, but the words are not meant to be mean, but funny. I am also laughing and smiling, and I think it rubs off on people and puts them in a good mood.

...or when they come back from court and they have lost the case, everyone just kind of hangs around in others' offices just talking. If they have a deadline then they work on it, but on Fridays everyone just waits for 5 o'clock to come around.

My boss is very nice and approachable. If I don't get how to do something, I can go to her and she won't laugh at me. She calls things 'du-hickeys' and 'thing-a-ma-bobs,' you know, those technical terms… I opened court cases and closed them. I do the court run every day. When we actually go to court, if they need something from the office, I offer to run there and get the file, laptop, or whatever they may need.
