Veterinary School (Krista, Kelly)
In the trailer there were about 10 horses that just arrived from a rescue case. I could see how neglected they were. There was a lifeless gleam about them, and I could see their bones protruding just beneath their skin. Our sponsor explained to us that these were horses that were called in earlier and had been neglected and abused by the owner. My stomach ached from the sight; I felt so bad for the horses. Who could do such a thing? One of the women who works at the vet school began to take out each horse one at a time. They seemed jumpy and skittish, like they weren't used to humans. Kelly and I pointed out the skinniest horses as we sat and watched them begin to be loaded off the trailer. I felt sick. This was so wrong. The horses were starving; you could see literally each line of their ribcage perfectly. Their shoulder bones looked as if they were about break through their thin skin. The first thing each horse did when it came out of the trailer was eat the fresh grass below their feet. Kelly and I ended up leaving after a while in order to see what surgeries were going on and to get away from the depressing sight.
I went from being new to being experienced. As I continued reading some of my earlier reflections, it was nice to get to relive my past experiences I enjoyed the reflections I wrote about the exciting surgeries that Kelly and I got to see. My favorites were the camel and the horse surgery where pus was flowing rapidly out of the horse's leg.

The last thing that Krista and I did instead of watching surgeries is fold towels and roll sheep cotton (gauze). We do not get to do very much because we are not allowed to touch the animals since we do not have our rabies shots.
I am still very young and inexperienced and there are a lot of different careers out there for me to explore. I think that if I chose this career track, I would really enjoy it and have a lot of fun.
