- Portfolio students are involved in an “Adopt a Grandparent” project. We regularly go over to Parklands care center (the nursing home behind PKY) and talk with residents who have become special friends to each student. My students have conducted a lengthy interview with them to hear their stories and find out about the passions and joys of their lives. Students have also read to them, one student serenaded his adoptive grandparent with the guitar, and we have painted with the residents. In class we are developing portraits and we are planning a collaborative show with a photographer who has photographed the residents. We will invite them over to an opening celebration and give them the gift of their portraits.
